The work
Sacrifice for the Future begins with a simple proposition: every future requires something to be given up.
Participants are invited to make a concrete brick and place inside it an object they are willing to sacrifice for the future. The offering can be personal, symbolic or practical; its meaning does not have to be explained. If they wish, participants can also leave their name with the brick.
Each individual sacrifice becomes part of a growing stock of building material. When the future finally arrives, the bricks are intended to be used for a monument made from everything that people decided not to carry with them.
The work transforms sacrifice from an abstract political demand into a physical decision: what are we actually prepared to lose in order for something else to become possible? If the resulting future disappoints us, the monument will also preserve the evidence of what was paid for it.
The festival
Emigration to the Future was an interdisciplinary festival that took place in Berlin-Wedding, 7–9 August 2026, bringing together artists, performers and researchers from seven countries working across performance, installation, video, sound and public intervention. Curated by Vsevolod Lisovsky and Anton Polski (MAKE / Citizen Make), across venues including exBrache, Chto Delat and public space around Wedding.
