The work
Borders Unlimited is a performative intervention built around a temporary border that appears inside the festival space.
Visitors approaching it are stopped by border guards, asked to show identification and answer questions before being allowed to cross. Some are let through; others are refused. The rules may be logical, arbitrary, discriminatory or completely absurd.
The country behind the border is never stable. Its name, flag, laws, political system and criteria for entry can change at any moment. Visitors can be separated from their companions, negotiate with the guards, offer bribes or eventually become border guards themselves.
The guards have no real influence over the state they represent: they simply enforce its current rules until those rules change again. As the intervention continues, constantly shifting borders and irrational procedures gradually become part of the normal order of the space.
Borders Unlimited turns the border into something visibly temporary — a collective fiction that exists only while people continue to recognise, perform and obey it.
The festival

Curated by Vsevolod Lisovsky and Anton Polski (MAKE / Citizen Make), across venues including exBrache, Chto Delat and public space around Wedding.
