The work
Necro Kite Festival develops an image from Russian cosmism into a public action: a coffin is transformed into an object capable of flight.
Conceived under the banner of the Party of the Dead, the project brings together funeral symbolism and the technological optimism of cosmism, a tradition that imagined humanity overcoming death and extending life beyond the limits of Earth. Here, however, the route into the future begins with the most stubbornly material sign of mortality.
The coffin becomes a giant kite or winged construction and is launched into the sky. The gesture is deliberately unstable: part funeral, part amateur aerospace experiment, part collective spectacle.
Rather than promising immortality, Necro Kite Festival gives the dead a temporary technology of departure. It turns the sky above an ordinary urban site into a launch field for a future in which even burial objects refuse to remain on the ground.
The festival
Emigration to the Future was an interdisciplinary festival that took place in Berlin-Wedding, 7–9 August 2026, bringing together artists, performers and researchers from seven countries working across performance, installation, video, sound and public intervention. Curated by Vsevolod Lisovsky and Anton Polski (MAKE / Citizen Make), across venues including exBrache, Chto Delat and public space around Wedding.
