The work
Necromeditation is a performative practice developed by Maxim Evstropov since 2016. It borrows the techniques and recognizable patterns of guided meditation and redirects them toward social and political critique.
Instead of leading participants inward toward calm, self-improvement or personal liberation, the voice guides attention outward: toward the political situation, collective anxiety, death and the conditions in which the body is currently living. The familiar language of meditation becomes a structure for radical poetic reflection rather than escape.
Performed under the banner of the Party of the Dead, Necromeditation treats the future as the principal object of contemplation. It asks participants not to detach from reality, but to remain with it long enough for another relation to the present to become imaginable.
Necromeditation is always a meditation about the future — conducted from the position of those who cannot simply withdraw from the world that produces it.
The festival
Emigration to the Future was an interdisciplinary festival that took place in Berlin-Wedding, 7–9 August 2026, bringing together artists, performers and researchers from seven countries working across performance, installation, video, sound and public intervention. Curated by Vsevolod Lisovsky and Anton Polski (MAKE / Citizen Make), across venues including exBrache, Chto Delat and public space around Wedding.
