The work
Digital Emigration is an AI-generated video work about a first wave of migration into digital reality. Its teenage protagonists move toward enhanced avatar versions of themselves while their physical bodies remain imperfect, vulnerable and rooted in the present.
Around them, a crowd of aliens and robots gathers at a concert in a futuristic city, forming a speculative diaspora of new digital identities. Real bodies, idealized images and machine-generated artifacts coexist without fully resolving into one reality.
AI is used not only as a production tool but as a co-author. Glitches and visual errors are deliberately preserved, allowing the technology's failures to become part of the work's language rather than defects to be erased.
Digital Emigration asks what belonging might mean when identity can migrate before the body does, and whether a community can form between human vulnerability and its artificially perfected doubles.
The festival
Emigration to the Future was an interdisciplinary festival that took place in Berlin-Wedding, 7–9 August 2026, bringing together artists, performers and researchers from seven countries working across performance, installation, video, sound and public intervention. Curated by Vsevolod Lisovsky and Anton Polski (MAKE / Citizen Make), across venues including exBrache, Chto Delat and public space around Wedding.
