The work
Realists is a site-specific audio play set inside an ordinary Berlin apartment. The audience enters a real living space and listens to the everyday conversations of an adult family of three. There is no theatrical exposition: the work unfolds through fragments of domestic speech, relationships and routines that seem to be continuing whether or not anyone is listening.
The play exists in two casting versions — performed entirely by men or entirely by women — while the family structure and text remain the same. This shift changes how intimacy, care, authority and dependence are read without changing the domestic situation itself.
The apartment becomes a small model of a possible future: not a spectacular utopia, but a lived environment in which another arrangement of relationships is already present. Realists asks the audience to enter that space not as observers of a distant scenario, but as temporary guests inside it.
